ING Georgia Marathon!
Today was a wonderful day in Atlanta! After a great sleep we made our way over to the starting line at a park near Underground Atlanta, and there was a HUGE crowd there already waiting for us at 6am in the morning! We were going to be the first crowd to run the brand new ING course, which will have its first official inaugural race this coming March, and what a crowd to do it! Dean Karnazes had braved his way through the Atlanta airport security nightmare, and it was fantastic to have him there today. Having never actually met Dean face to face before, it was great to finally connect with him, and we really had a great time getting to know each other, exchanging stories, and just enjoying the beautiful weather we were blessed with today and the awesome course we got to run all through the city. Several folks from Big Peach Running Co. came out to run the whole thing as well, and I don't think we would've made it without them. The race director Victoria graciously led us through the course also, which made things pretty seamless. My good friend Daniel drove over from Birmingham to run with us and ran really strong- so fun to have him along for the ride! Another good friend Ben drove yet another sagwagon today as our caravan toured the city, and it was great! I couldn't have asked for better weather, better support, a better course, or better folks to run with- it was a phenomenal day! We went back and went through our usual post-run routine and were off for a great lunch with friends before we hit the road for Tallahassee, FL. We've now made it here safely and are staying with friends from Vicksburg who moved here several years ago. Tomorrow will be another 6am start here to beat the heat, and should be a lot of fun! Thank you to everyone that came out today and helped and ran and made today a great one- you're the best!
