Entry for July 1, 2006
Good morning from Leadville, Colorado! After months of planning, I'm finally ready to start running. As I begin what will undoubtedly be a very long journey, I feel extremely encouraged by all of your e-mails and well wishes. Although I will be the one running the 50 marathons, the support I've received makes me feel as if this is a community effort- that people aren't ready to forget the Katrina victims who still desperately need our help. I wanted to say "thank you" to everyone who has e-mailed and donated thus far- your support means everything to me.
The crew (Kirsten, Diane, Andres, and me) is firmly together here in Leadville. I'm feeling a bit under the weather right now with congestion, a sore throat, and a slight fever, but these minor inconveniences certainly won't stop us now! The weather today is beautiful- a crisp 40 degrees and clear. Well, the first of my 50 marathons begins at 8:00, so I need to go warm up a bit. Thanks again for all your support. I will be updating this blog daily, so please check this website whenever you can. It's go time!
